The ‚International Open Data Network for Sustainable Building (InData)’ was founded in 2015 on the initiative of the BBSR. The InData Working Group is an informal, non-profit working group of interested stakeholders led by the BBSR. Its main objective is to establish an international network structure for EPD/LCA data in the construction sector – online based and using open source software. Using a common data format in an open network structure shall allow for open access to data and flexible application options, while maintaining individual ownership and responsibility for the data. Data is provided and organized by each supplier, while at the same time available to users across the data network.
The InData initiative uses the ILCD+EPD data format developed for the ÖKOBAUDAT. Conformity rules are established to ensure high data quality.
Considering the significant increase in the number of EPD programme operators, generated EPDs and BIM applications in the construction sector, the InData platform is gaining in importance. Here, providers of EPDs and LCA results agree beyond the common data format on common rules for the provision of EPD and generic data for building LCA.
Participants from 12 countries are currently represented in the InData Group: Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Spain, Turkey, Austria. Following the ÖKOBAUDAT, four of the actors have already established executable databases based on the ILCD+EPD format in order to connect to the InData network. With the ÖKOBAUDAT and the related developments, the BBSR is a pioneer and an important player in an international network.
Within the InData network, an international data search will be possible in the future. With a search function contained on the InData website, datasets can be found in all involved database nodes. The search function is based on the developments for the ÖKOBAUDAT data search. It was further developed and tested within the scope of research projects of the BBSR. The BBSR makes these developments available to the InData network in order to realize the international data network.
The initiative operates its own website at https://www.indata.network/, where all information about InData is available.
