Name
FK90 fire damper
Use advice for data set Scope: This document refers to the manufacture, transport, installation, operation and disposal of fire dampers with optional accessories for air-conditioning systems. The products are exclusively produced in the Weener plant where the production data for 2011 was recorded. System boundary: The "cradle to grave" EPD system boundary complies with the modular design as per /EN 15804:2011/. The LCA of the products under review considers the entire life cycle of the product and therefore all modules: A1-A3 (Product stage): Provision of raw materials, transport to the manufacturer, production (incl. provision of energy and water, provision of ancillary materials, disposal of waste) A4-A5 (Construction process stage): Transport to the construction site, installation in the building, recycling packaging waste B1-B5 (Use stage): Use of the installed product, operational energy use, annual maintenance C1-C4 (End-of-life stage): De-construction of the product, transport to waste treatment, waste processing, disposal D (Credits): Recycling potential
Technical purpose of product or process Fire protection in air-conditioning systems in buildings where air ducts are fed through fire-resistant walls or ceilings. Suitable for first installation and refurbishment. Universal and flexible handling, even when on-site installation situations are modified, e.g. using different types of frames supplied loose or ready- assembled. Suitable for installation in, on and outside solid walls and ceilings, lightweight partition walls and shaft walls, wooden walls and ceilings. Installation is performed wet, dry or with partial mortaring with the lowest possible distances between fire dampers or between fire dampers and walls and ceilings. The fire damper is maintenance-free. Plug-in connections permit swift exchange or replacement of the release mechanism.

General comment on data set The FK90 fire damper comprises a pressure-joint, stable casing made of galvanised sheet steel with an internal unbreakable damper blade made of abrasion-resistant calcium silicate. The drive is manual or motor-controlled. A fully-enclosed, permanently-lubricated, maintenance-free slider crank gear placed in the casing wall area with an enclosed drive unit acts as a self-locking drive mechanism for unbreakable torques. A large, free cross-section promotes favourable energetic operation of the air-conditioning system. Also suitable for use in openings for air transfer applications (Ü-FK), commercial kitchens (FKKUE), with a fire-resistance period of 120 minutes (FK120) and with wooden walls and ceilings (FK90-wood). The FK90 fire damper is maintenance-free, regardless of the integrated components and dimensions. Hygienic cleaning should be carried out wherever necessary. For more details, please also refer to section 7 and the /manufacturer's documents/.

Technology description including background system Production is at one location. The necessary raw and semi-finished parts, ancillary materials and operating materials are delivered by suppliers and integrated in production. Semi-finished parts are prefabricated using manufacturing processes typical for the respective materials. Metal parts are punched and edged to shape; parts made of calcium silicate are sawn and milled. Blanks are optimised accordingly in order to avoid waste. Any waste incurred is collected and recycled by the appropriate companies wherever possible, or disposed of and incinerated as domestic waste. Lubricants are largely collected, treated and re-used in production. Dust and fumes are extracted and collected on site. Prefabricated parts are assembled along with bought-in parts to fire dampers, inspected, packaged and shipped within the framework of quality assurance in accordance with /DIN EN ISO 9001/. Technical data: The requirements in accordance with the harmonised product standard /DIN EN 15650/ "Ventilation for buildings – Fire dampers; German version of EN 15650:2010" are fulfilled. Fire tests were performed in accordance with /DIN EN 1366-2/. Declared unit: The Declaration refers to the manufacture of one reference fire damper by Wildeboer Bauteile GmbH measuring 200 x 200 mm. The LCA results also include the release unit and optional installation subframe. The electrical release unit (there is also a mechanical release unit) was taken into consideration as the worst-case scenario. The installation subframe available as an optional accessory was summarised as an average frame and also taken into consideration. Other fire dampers whose dimensions deviate from those considered here can be calculated by means of extrapolation of the results in the weight table.
